What Are The Benefits of Driving an Electric Car?

Switching to electric comes with substantial benefits for you as the driver but also for the environment too.

The most impactful advantage of driving an electric car is that they are much better for the environment due to EVs not emitting any tailpipe emissions or greenhouse gases which reduces air pollution considerably. More cities across the UK are introducing Clean Air Zones with fees to discourage polluting vehicles from entering specific areas - an EV is exempt from these charges.

EVs are also cheap to run, with running costs significantly less than a petrol or diesel car. An electric vehicle converts electricity into movement enabling the wheels to turn rather than burning fuel like a conventional car, making them more economical. Not only that, zero-emission EVs are completely exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty (otherwise known as Car Tax).

Charge Wherever

You have the freedom to charge at home, at work or on the go. Many vehicles have rapid charge ability, where a 20-minute charge can replenish the battery to 80%.

Cut Costs

Electric cars are extremely cheap to run, costing on average £2.80 to drive 100 miles. Plus, they also require less maintenance because they have fewer moving parts.

Reduce Emissions

EVs don’t require petrol or diesel to move so they don’t emit any tailpipe emissions or greenhouse gases which helps to reduce your carbon footprint.

Which AFV Is Right For You?

Mild Hybrid (MHEV)

The MHEV engine is a relatively new technology that makes use of a smaller electric motor to assist the conventional combustion engine in order to help features like the Stop / Start function be more efficient.

Hybrid (HEV)

A more commonplace choice is the HEV option, which is similar to the MHEV however, it contributes to moving the vehicle forwards rather than just assisting with isolated features within the vehicle.

Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)

As the name suggests, the PHEV’s electric battery is charged by connecting to a charge point which adds additional range on top of the combustion engine.

All Electric (EV)

An EV emits zero-emissions running entirely on electricity. It is the only option that runs on a pure electric motor only, which is plugged into a charge point or a traditional three-pin socket.
