How does the Motability Scheme work

How does the Motability Scheme work?

We want to make using the Motability Scheme as straightforward and hassle-free as possible, so you only have to think about one thing: which exciting new Hyundai, ŠKODA, MG or Suzuki car you’re going to choose! With this in mind, we’ve broken down getting your Motability car into a few simple stages:

1. Find out if you're eligible for the scheme

Please visit our dedicated page for more information on Motability Eligibility. Our team can advise you if you’re still not sure.

2. Get assigned with a personal Motability advisor

Once you contact our team, we can match you with your own personal Motability advisor, who’ll be on-hand every step of the way to help find the right solution for you.

3. Choose your car

We have hundreds of Hyundai, ŠKODA, MG and Suzuki cars available on Motability, suited to an array of needs. You’ll need to consider whether you need a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), if there are any adaptations required (many are available at no extra cost), as well as which colours, trims, equipment and personalisation options you would prefer. Your personal Motability advisor will be happy to help as much as is required.

4. Take a test drive

One of the most exciting parts of buying a new car: be sure to test drive your favourites to make sure you find the new Motability car that’s the right fit for you.

To book a test drive, get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to assist you.

5. Order your car

Once you’ve come to a decision, just let your Motability advisor know. They can talk you through the process of placing an order for your car, take any payments required from you (though many of our Motability cars are available with no advance payments), and provide you with a unique PIN that can be exchanged for your new car once they’ve notified you that it’s ready to pick up.

6. You're good to go!

The Motability Scheme covers your insurance as well as two named drivers, servicing, maintenance and repair costs, breakdown assistance – so you can drive away in your brand new car from the moment you pick it up and only need to worry about fuel.

Things to Consider

You’re allocated a Motability allowance each month to spend as you wish on staying mobile. Sometimes this will be the same amount as your car costs through the scheme – these cars require no upfront payment, often advertised as ‘Nil Advance Payment’.

Sometimes they’ll cost more than your allowance; in this scenario, you’ll be required to make a single payment at the start of your lease. Some cars even cost less than your allowance; if this is the case, you’re still entitled to use the remainder on any other mobility solutions.

Motability Cars for Carers

If you’re unable to drive yourself, that doesn’t mean you can’t still benefit from the Motability Scheme – you can nominate three named drivers to be insured on your car, whether they are relatives, guardians, or healthcare professionals, who can drive your car as required (providing they fit the criteria required by RSA Motability). Two named drivers can be nominated when you place your application, and a third driver can be added during your lease.
