RICHMOND X URBOND FAMILY FUN DAY

Our Family Fun Day raised over £2,000 in support of Urbond Child Education! (3-minute read)

The inaugural Richmond Fun Day took place on Sunday 2nd July, raising money for our charity partner Urbond Child Education. Urbond is a non-profit dedicated to fostering strong and more inclusive communities in both the local Portsmouth area and back in Guinea, which is close to their hearts.

An inter-company football match was the showpiece, with Portsmouth taking all the bragging rights with a 6-2 win over Southampton. It was an exciting end-to-end match, but those in blue were too strong on the day, with Glenn Poate picking up the Man of the Match award for guiding his team to victory.

Throughout the day, there were several activities for everyone to enjoy. Families could battle it out on the inflatable gladiator joust or race through the impressive 45 ft bouncy obstacle course. There were stalls outside with funfair activities such as hook-a-duck and knock-down-cans as well as an array of garden games for all to enjoy. Helium balloons and temporary tattoos proved to be popular and the talented Snazzy Roo had children queuing out the door for face painting. If you were lucky, you could even spot a wild T-Rex wandering around the field!

"This was a great event that I was proud to be involved in. It started with a bit of rivalry between the Portsmouth and Southampton dealerships who wanted to hold a football match. We thought this would be a great opportunity to run some fundraising activities alongside the football match. All proceeds went to a local charity Urbond, which Richmond Motor Group are supporting in their quest to build a school in a remote area in the Republic of Guinea. Fleetlands Football Club were amazing and let us use their facility combined with some Richmond staff giving up their weekend to help run the event made the whole day a success." Andrew Clarke, Head of Fleet

Refreshments weren't in short supply either, with the clubhouse bar offering a selection of hot and cold drinks and a BBQ for those who needed to refuel before returning to the fun. Jo Jo’s, the local ice cream lady set up shop with her van and supplied our guests with delicious 99s. The sweet treats didn’t end there, as there was also a candyfloss machine where you could have a go at making your own cotton candy.

The local fire brigade also made a surprise appearance. Children of all ages enjoyed meeting real-life heroes and some were even fortunate enough to explore the truck. The day raised over £2k! We would like to thank everyone that helped set up this fantastic event, along with those that attended and contributed to a fantastic total raised for charity. It was great to see so many friends and families of Richmond enjoying the sunshine and taking part in fun activities. We'll be back next year, bigger and better. See you there!
